Laser technology, which originated in the early 1960s, is one of the four major inventions of the 20th century, along with atomic energy, semiconductors and computers.
With the continuous development of laser technology, laser applications have penetrated into all aspects of research and industry, playing an important role in automobile manufacturing, aerospace, steel, metal processing, metallurgy, solar energy and medical equipment. Laser industry has been developed in China for more than 50 years and has formed different types of technology applications with several disciplines, such as optoelectronic technology, laser medical and biophotonics, laser processing technology, laser testing and metrology technology, laser holography, laser spectral analysis technology, nonlinear optics, ultrafast laser science, laser chemistry, quantum optics, laser radar, laser guidance, laser separation of isotopes, laser controllable nuclear fusion, laser weapons, etc.
Lasers and their accessories occupy an important position in the whole chain of laser industry and belong to the industry with strong technology. Laser communication, laser storage and laser display are mainly used in the information field. Laser processing (including laser cutting, laser welding, laser marking, laser drilling, etc.) and laser medical are widely used in medicine and industry.
1, China's laser industry distribution
China's laser can be divided into five industrial zones, the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, Central China, the Bohai Sea region and the Northwest. These five industrial zones side different, the Pearl River Delta to small and medium power laser processing machines, the Yangtze River Delta to high-power laser cutting and welding equipment, the Bohai Rim to high-power laser cladding and all-solid-state laser, the northwest region to high-power semiconductor lasers, Wuhan-led central China covers large, medium and small laser processing equipment. Accelerate the development of laser chain processing services, laser processing development, laser medical beauty, laser performance, laser decoration and other new industries.
2、China's laser import and export situation
Laser processing industry in the domestic market is extensive. China is a large manufacturing country, domestic processing equipment will gradually upgrade, the development of the laser equipment industry will be more rapid. Especially the development of automotive, semiconductor and electronic manufacturing industries make China's laser market potential.
Several domestic research and development institutions and enterprises engaged in the development, production and operation of lasers and laser processing equipment have emerged. Fewer than 5 laser technology research laboratories and more than 10 product development institutions. There have been more than 100 manufacturing companies engaged in laser processing, some of which were established by the Institute of Laser Technology Applications, and others are emerging privately owned private laser companies, mainly in Wuhan, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Beijing, Xi'an and other provinces and cities. These companies have become the main force in the domestic laser processing market, and the industrial lasers, components and laser processing systems (laser marking, scribing, trimming, cutting, welding, surface treatment, micromachining, direct forming) they manufacture account for about 90% or more of the total domestic market share.
The Chinese laser processing equipment market has been growing steadily since 2006, growing from $399 million at the time to an estimated $2.2 billion this year. There have been a bit of ups and downs, with relatively slow growth of just $740 million in 2009, and rapid growth in all four years after that.
In the past three years, the import of laser systems reached an average of $800 million, while the last two years gradually decreased, which indicates that China has partially achieved self-sufficiency in laser systems, but the domestic market is still dominated by foreign companies.
From 2003 to the present, China's laser equipment exports have continued to gain momentum, mainly to Hong Kong, South Korea, India and other countries and regions. 2007 total exports have exceeded 460 million RMB, up 84% year-on-year. 2010 exports were 98 million USD, while in 2011 there were 134 million USD and in 2012 up to 202 million USD.
In terms of laser types, Chinese companies purchase more distributed low power CO2 laser sources (10-60W, 15,000 units), medium & high power CO2 lasers (100W to kW level, 2300 units), low power fiber lasers (<50W, 13,000 units), high power fiber lasers (>1KW, 300 units), and DPSSL systems (6000 units ).
3、China Laser Medical Industry
In terms of laser medical devices, it has traditionally been the United States, Europe, Israel and Japan that have temporarily taken the global position. Especially in the United States, its laser medical equipment is not only widely used, but also exported in large quantities to overseas markets, bringing considerable sales revenue to the United States every year. The top 25 medical device companies together account for 60% of total global medical device sales, and 16 of the top 20 medical device companies in the world were in the U.S. in 2008. The U.S. medical device industry as a whole accounted for 50% of global sales revenue, followed by Europe, accounting for 22%, Japan accounted for about 20%, China accounted for about 2.90%, and other countries and regions accounted for a total of 5%. 500 watts or more for material processing of high-power lasers is dominated by Germany, while low-power semiconductor lasers are dominated by Japan, accounting for more than 70% of the global market.
According to the European Commission for Medical Devices, total global medical device market sales have risen rapidly from $187 billion in 2001 to $335.3 billion in 2009, and are maintaining a strong rise with a double-digit growth rate. The growth rate of the global medical device market demand is much higher than the overall global GDP growth rate, and the medical device market is developing rapidly relative to the overall global economy. In the field of laser in dentistry, for example, it is reported that less than 80% of the 200,000 dentists in the United States regularly use CO2 laser equipment, so the market for dental lasers is vast, and the potential market is up to more than a billion dollars.
Domestic laser medical equipment in the domestic laser sales of up to 20%-30%. Its production area is mainly distributed in Guangdong, Hubei, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, which are several provinces and cities. Among them, the optical communications, laser and other industries led by the "Wuhan China Off Valley", with more than 300 optoelectronics enterprises, in the medical laser production showed strong momentum. And Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan, with their special geographical location, have promoted the introduction and development of medical laser technology.
And in recent years, hospitals and large beauty chains in Guangdong Province have seen substantial growth in demand for laser equipment, which has led to rapid growth in their medical laser enterprises. However, as far as medical laser companies are concerned, their medical laser industry is still developing. In addition, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province and Chengdu, Sichuan Province, with the industrialization of research institute technology, there are also a number of laser enterprises have come into being. As China's old industrial base of optics in Changchun, although there are some enterprises engaged in the development and production of laser medical industry, but due to regional problems, many enterprises have not yet formed a large scale.
Wuhan has China's large laser production enterprises - Chutian Laser Group. The enterprise produces dozens of laser beauty and laser medical products in addition to industrial laser welding machines. It has now become one of the large domestic (and Asian) production bases for medical laser instruments. After 30 years of continuous high-speed development, China's medical device industry has initially built a complete range of disciplines, a complete industrial chain, strong industrial base of the industrial system, and become the basic industry, pioneer industry and pillar industry of China's national economy.
Due to the rapid popularity of laser technology in China in recent years, as well as the increase in investment in medical treatment infrastructure, China's laser medical equipment market has grown rapidly since 2010. New market research data shows that in 2010, the market size of laser medical equipment in China was RMB 2.91 billion, an increase of 21.3% year-on-year. In terms of instrument types, in addition to laser surgical treatment equipment occupying more than 57% of the market share, laser cosmetic equipment and laser diagnostic and analytical instruments accounted for an increase in market share over 2009, at 23.2% and 9.6% respectively.
